Photography for me is more than just a job, it's a passion and a way of life, satisfying an innate curiosity for everything on this planet. My dad was a photographer and so I grew up with the smell of developer and fixer in my nostrils, spending hours helping him in his darkroom. The thrill of seeing an image appear, as if by magic in the developer is something that is embedded in my memory. Nowadays, I'm more likely to be sat in front of my Apple Mac, using Adobe Lightroom to process the digital images embedded in my camera's memory cards. Must admit, I don't miss the smelly chemicals and seeing the images pop up on my computer screen still excites me.
My photography education is an interesting blend of commercial and fine art and started with a HND from Blackpool and the Fylde College, where I learned the nuts and bolts of image making. After studying Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University, I then went on to gain a Masters Degree in Photography at DeMontfort University, studying under the legendary Paul Hill. It's been an interesting and fun creative journey and I've met some fantastically influential people on the way, who have helped me hone my skills, allowing me to go the extra mile for my clients.
I have two bases, one in the Peak District, near Sheffield and the other in the lovely Eden Valley near Carlisle. I often travel to assignments on a motorbike, (a BMW F800GS for those who like to know these things!) The bike enables me to respond to jobs swiftly without getting stuck behind tractors and large truck, so you can rely on me to arrive on time, with a big smile on my face!
